DAY 1

Begin your two-wheeled adventure in beautiful western Serbia, discovering the emerald forests and crystal-clear streams of Divčibare Mountain, at a pleasant altitude of 1000 metres. Look out for local wildlife as you cycle across dramatic mountain paths.

DAY 2

The next day, you’ll swap Divčibare for the area around the city of Valjevo, roughly 38 kilometres away. Here, you’ll combine scenery with cycling thrills, resting your tired muscles afterwards in a friendly village guesthouse. Be sure to try some local specialties at dinner: delicious ćevapi (grilled minced meat) washed down with some ice-cold local beer, perhaps.

DAY 3

The sparkling Tresnjica River, part of a designated nature reserve, is your destination for day three: set off on a cycling tour over the Tresnjica River Gorge, a deep, limestone canyon with vertical cliffs, followed by a hiking tour near the majestic River Drina Waterfalls. CYCLING TOUR NEAR MANASTIR RUJAN, SERBIA
DAYS 4 & 5

Cycle through the verdant landscapes and go on a two-wheeled tour of the dramatic Drina River Canyon, where the green waters of the Piva and Tara rivers join. Spend the night at a hospitable hunter’s lodge, getting a flavour of local life. Day five takes you to the craggy peaks of Zlatibor, which you’ll explore on a mountain cycling tour, followed by a trip to 19th-century Sirogojno village.

DAYS 6 & 7

The next day, embark on a cycling tour of Durmitor mountain and visit Sedio Peak, pausing to take photos from this 1,907m-high vantage point, or go canoeing through the awe-inspiring Tara River Canyon, nicknamed the ‘Tear of Europe’, the deepest canyon in Europe (1,333m). You could also enjoy a boat trip across glittering Lake Pluzine, before settling in for the night at Podgorica.
Day seven will be spent cycling from Lustica Peninsula back to the glamorous, historic city of Kotor, with lunch on pebbly Zanjice Beach. Don’t miss a boat trip to the Blue Cave (Plava Spilja). The next day, go cycling on part of the Eurovelo 8 route along Skadar Lake, towards Albania, with a lunchtime pit-stop by the waters, keeping an eye out for local birdlife. Back in the charming little town of Virpazar, taste fresh lake fish and try indigenous vranac wines from local producers.
